The Board of Trustees of John Witherspoon College are pleased to announce the election of Dr. Ronald Lewis as second President of the College, effective January 1, 2019. The action came at the regular December meeting of the Board. The Board also named Dr. Richard Wells, Founding President, as Chancellor.
Dr. Lewis served John Witherspoon College as Dean from its inception until 2017. After a year-long hiatus, Dr. Lewis returned to that role last fall. “For such a time as this,” said outgoing President Wells, “Ron Lewis is an outstanding choice for President of JWC. He knows the institution better than anyone I know. He models servant leadership. He embodies the Core Values of the College. And in his teaching, his leadership, and his personal life, he exemplifies Christ-centered excellence.”
Dr. Lewis holds two bachelor’s degrees, from South Dakota State University and Kansas State University. He holds master’s degrees from the International School of Theology and Dallas Theological Seminary, and he holds the doctorate from the Divinity School of Trinity International University. He served many years with Campus Crusade in Africa, and as a pastor in Colorado, Minnesota, and South Dakota. He is married to Sandi; they have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
John Witherspoon College is the first and only institution of its kind in the Black Hills region, and the first new college in South Dakota in more than 40 years. The College began in 2004 as Black Hills Biblical Institute, offering evening classes for mostly adult learners in biblical and theological studies. JWC launched in 2012 as a four-year degree-granting institution, offering Christ-centered programs in Christian Studies, Humanities, and Leadership. The College received full accreditation in 2017 with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), one of only four faith-based accrediting agencies recognized by the U. S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
