May 2021 Fidelis Letter from the President
Dear friends of JWC,
We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 ESV).
A HUGE “thank you” goes to you for your prayers and support of John Witherspoon College enabling another successful and fruitful academic year! The annual JWC Generation Six Forty (Luke 6:40) breakfast and dinner in April brought out more than 160 people to hear student testimonies and to see how God is using the College. Thank you for your part in these events and for helping the College move forward in providing Christ-centered, classical education to students for service to the church and the world.
As you read this, students will be taking final exams and finishing the spring semester. Several are planning to take a summer class, The Origin of the Bible. This excellent course is being taught by Professor Justin McGeary and is scheduled for May 10-21. Professor McGeary would love to have you join him for this class. To register for the class, please call the College at (605) 342-0317.
In June we plan to host a visiting team from our accrediting agency, Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), as JWC is up for reaffirmation of accreditation. We are also preparing and looking forward to the fall semester with more than a half-dozen new students planning to join our current student body. For more information about the College along with student testimonies and course offerings, please visit the College Website at jwc.edu.
Finally, you are invited and encouraged to gather with us in person for the End-of-Year Celebration Service on Friday, May 7, 6:30pm, at the College campus, 4024 Sheridan Lake Road in Rapid City.
Thank you for “your work of faith, labor of love, and steadfast hope in Christ” in supporting Christian higher education in the Black Hills region and beyond.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Ronald Lewis President
End-of-Year Celebration Service Prayer and Praise May 7, 6:30pm This Friday, May 7th at 6:30pm, we will gather to praise and worship God for His great faithfulness to our college and JWC family. We invite you to join us for this "End of Year Celebration Service" with a special time of singing and sharing testimonies. Afterwards, we will enjoy ice cream and fellowship together!
2021 Generation Six Forty Events "Teaching the Truth" We are so grateful for each one of you that attended the Generation Six Forty "Teaching the Truth" fundraising events in April. How good it was to be able to hear from this new generation of students! We hope you were blessed and encouraged by the stories of these students and other members of our JWC family.
God has raised up John Witherspoon College to teach the truth. JWC is more than academic learning although it’s programs are rigorous academically. JWC is more than providing a degree so graduates can get a “good” job, although that is very important. The College focuses on character development, helping students become mature, godly citizen leaders. It focuses on God’s design based on the truth of His inerrant Word.
Listen to what six students shared about the classical Christian education received at John Witherspoon College in Rapid City, South Dakota. This video was played as part of the Generation Six Forty "Teaching the Truth" events on April 13 and April 16, 2021. Through the Leadership Challenge and gifts given at the Generation Six Forty breakfast and dinner, the Lord graciously provided over $60,000 in gifts and pledges through people like you. Your gifts to John Witherspoon College will make an impact in the lives of our students for generations to come. Thank You!
Register by May 6! Two-week Summer Term class Where did the Bible come from? How do I know my translation is reliable? John Witherspoon College is offering its Origin of the Bible course this summer, taught by Professor Justin McGeary and other faculty. We will look at biblical manuscripts and how they were transmitted, explore the formation of the canon, acquaint ourselves with the genres of the Bible, introduce the doctrines about Scripture, and examine issues surrounding translation. There is plenty to learn and discuss about God’s word! Origin of the Bible is an introductory three-credit course offered in a condensed two-week format. It will enhance your appreciation for God's word, its history, and your access to it.
