August 2021 Fidelis Letter from the President
Dear JWC family and friends,
[Jesus] said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38, ESV).
Harvest time is upon us—as well as motorcycles!—which means it is time to gear up for the fall semester. John Witherspoon College is entering its tenth year and is blessed with an increase in enrollment, with 18 full-time students and 11 part-time. Registration for classes is still open this week. Student Orientation is Friday, August 20 and regular fall classes begin August 23.
You are invited and encouraged to attend the JWC Fall Convocation on Thursday, September 2, at 6:30pm. The formal service will be held in the sanctuary of Real Life Church at 4024 Sheridan Lake Road in Rapid City from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Guest speaker is Associate Pastor Wes Roth of Hillsview Evangelical Free Church in Piedmont. You will have the opportunity to meet the students, staff, faculty, and members of the Board of Trustees.
JWC has added another professor who will teach the Classical Rhetoric class. Lieutenant Colonel Jared Tomlin is a distinguished graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Humanities. Please read more about Professor Tomlin in the article below.
For more information regarding JWC faculty, fall classes, and upcoming events, please check the College Website at jwc.edu.
Thank you for your prayers and support of the students at John Witherspoon College so that they may receive a Christ-centered, classical education and be sent out as laborers in the Lord’s harvest in all walks of life.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Ronald Lewis President
10th Annual Fall Convocation Service
Thursday, September 2 6:30pm As we enter this new academic year, it is very important that we come together before the Lord as a JWC family. You are invited to attend this special Convocation on Thursday, September 2, at 6:30pm, as we celebrate 10 YEARS of Christ-centered learning.
Our special guest speaker is Pastor Wes Roth, the Associate Pastor at Hills View Evangelical Free Church in Piedmont. We will also have a time when our Board of Trustees, staff, and faculty will sign our Statement of Faith. After the service, we will have fellowship and a reception.
With great joy, we look forward to our time together with the Lord and one another.
Wes Roth was born and raised in Laramie, Wyoming and raised in a Christian home by loving parents and has one older brother whom he deeply admires. At football camp his junior year he admitted his desperate need for a Savior and accepted Jesus Christ into his heart with the help of his teammate. His road then led him to Rapid City and the South Dakota School of Mines and its academic rigors. It was during his senior year that he traveled to Israel with Project Interchange and was ready to be baptized on that trip - and was baptized in the Jordan River. Wes graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in Computer Science. The opportunity then arose to work for the newly-elected U.S. Senator Thune in Rapid City as a Constituent Services Representative, where he diligently and dependably served South Dakotans for almost 15 years. It was in the last few years Wes felt that God was calling him from public service into the ministry. It was actually his home church, Hills View Evangelical Free Church in Piedmont, which called Wes to be their Associate Pastor in March of 2020. Wes is married to Kim, and they have two children, whom they adopted: Kaleb (10) and Elsie (8). In Wes' life, Jesus Christ moved from being present in his life, to prominent in his life, to preeminent in his life, in all that he does for the Lord, for His Glory!
