February 2022 Fidelis

Letter from the President

Dear JWC family and friends,

Valentine’s Day is a special day that seems to come and go so quickly. Yet for believers in Christ, it is a wonderful reminder of God’s eternal love: In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10 ESV).

In a recent family letter, my grandniece put it this way: “It is our hope that your year was as full of love and joy as ours, and that you and yours become ever aware of the love displayed by our Lord Jesus Christ who paid it all in propitiation for any sins which might keep you from everlasting peace” (italics added).

Indeed, Jesus is the “propitiation for our sins” (1 John 2:2), meaning a sacrifice that bears God’s wrath and turns it to favor. Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross satisfied God’s wrath against us due to our sins. He opened the way for us to have eternal life through faith in him. And he did it out of his great love for us.

From God’s compelling love springs the mission of John Witherspoon College, which is to provide Christ-centered, classical liberal arts higher education to students for service to the church and the world. I hope you will be able to join us for the JWC monthly chapel service this Thursday, February 17, at 11:00am, followed by the Annual Chili Cook Off luncheon. The service is held in the beautiful worship center at Real Life Church, 4024 Sheridan Lake Road, in Rapid City. This month’s chapel speaker is Pastor Vergil Schmidt, who will tell how Christ called and has guided him in his life.

Thank you for praying and making a difference in the lives of the students at John Witherspoon College.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Ronald Lewis

President
