April 2021 Fidelis Letter from the President
Dear JWC family and friends,
For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NASB).
Greetings from John Witherspoon College! I hope these verses of Scripture are as encouraging to you as they are to me. The message of Easter and the season of spring bring new hope and an increasing desire to live for Christ.
In another month, students will finish the spring semester. Several are planning to take a summer class, The Origin of the Bible. This excellent course is being taught by Professor Justin McGeary and is scheduled for May 10-21. Professor McGeary would love to have you join him for this class.
Later in June we plan to host a visiting team from our accrediting agency, Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). We are also looking forward to the fall semester with more than a half-dozen new students planning to join our current student body.
Meanwhile, we hope you can attend one of our annual Generation Six Forty (Luke 6:40) fundraising events next week, either the breakfast on April 13 or the dinner on April 16. You will have the opportunity to meet our students, listen to their testimonies, enjoy the JWC Choir, hear future plans for the College, and learn more how you can help support and pray for this vital ministry for the Black Hills region and beyond.
Thank you for your prayers and partnership toward helping students receive a Christ-centered classical education for service to the church and the world.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Ronald Lewis President
John Witherspoon College warmly invites you to "Teaching the Truth", this year’s Generation Six Forty fundraiser. We will share about the mission of John Witherspoon College to teach and prepare students to serve their community, church, and world. This year we are holding two events to enable social distancing by limiting attendance plus giving you more flexibility in when to attend. Both events will be held at the JWC Campus located at 4024 Sheridan Lake Road in Rapid City (Real Life Church). We pray you will be inspired as you hear from our students and faculty about the Christ-centered learning at John Witherspoon College. The FREE Breakfast begins at 6:30am on Tuesday, April 13, and the FREE Dinner Buffet begins at 6:30pm on Friday, April 16, followed by the one hour program.
To register for one of these events, please call us at (605) 342-0317 or click below:
Where did the Bible come from? How do I know my translation is reliable? John Witherspoon College is offering its Origin of the Bible course this summer, taught by Professor Justin McGeary and other faculty. We will look at biblical manuscripts and how they were transmitted, explore the formation of the canon, acquaint ourselves with the genres of the Bible, introduce the doctrines about Scripture, and examine issues surrounding translation. There is plenty to learn and discuss about God’s word! Origin of the Bible is an introductory three-credit course offered in a condensed two-week format. It will enhance your appreciation for God's word, its history, and your access to it.
Alumnus Peter Irwin "Thankful for the opportunity to learn" PETER IRWIN was graduated from John Witherspoon College on May 15, 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies. Pictured here with his wife Ciera.
The past year has been incredible for many—my wife and I included! The morning after graduation in 2020, I loaded up my car and moved 650 miles to Rochester, Minnesota. In August 2020, Ciera and I tied the knot with the famous words “I do”! I am currently working at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge as a Recovery Coach. We have had so many new things come about in life and they just keep coming!
I am very thankful for my time at the school and the opportunity to learn from the staff, faculty, and students! May our God and Father richly bless you in the beloved with the most precious gift of himself! May your love abound more and more that in the day of our Lord’s return, you might be found having produced a harvest of righteousness to the praise of His glorious grace!
Peter Irwin, Class of 2020

“The Resurrection is the supreme vindication of Jesus' divine identity and his inspired teaching. It's the proof of his triumph over sin and death. It's the foreshadowing of the resurrection of his followers. It's the basis of Christian hope. It's the miracle of miracles."
