July 2023 Fidelis
Letter from the President |
Dear JWC family and friends, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom!” 2 Corinthians 3:17
As we entered into the month of July, I was struck by certain ironies of life. As Americans, we celebrate our Independence Day and the many blessings of freedom that we have in this country. While our nation has gone through many trials and failures, we nonetheless are blessed to live in the freest country on earth. Far more importantly, as Christians we can celebrate our freedom from sin and the liberty that is given through God’s Spirit.
John Witherspoon College also celebrates a different sort of independence this month, as we will finalize our transition to our new campus and will take occupancy on August 1st. It is an important time for our college as we step into a campus that is wholly “ours”. Of course, this independence did not come from revolution, but the evolution (in the proper sense of the word) of our institution. So rather than fight a war, we will instead celebrate with and send appreciation to Real Life Church of Rapid City for all of their support while we shared their space (2018-2023).
We also want to share our celebration with all of you. John Witherspoon College is already planning Open Houses and other events to introduce the new site to the community. If you desire an earlier tour, we’re happy to provide those as well! Whether through an organized event or a private tour, we hope you will join us to see our new location and hear about our plans for the future!
Finally, the other irony of this month: while we celebrate Independence Day as Americans, we always strive to remember that as Christians, we celebrate Dependence! We depend on God for His grace. We depend on God for His wisdom. We depend on God for the ability to continue the critical educational mission of John Witherspoon College! We are also reminded that God has called us to be dependent on one another, helping each other with our strengths. It is in this spirit that I wanted to ask you once again to consider how you might support JWC. Our move has been a blessing, but it has also been an expense. We feel God is leading us to a great mission in this area, but as we move forward we rely on assistance from you to get us through this wilderness of change. If you can give, please consider doing so. And if you can pray, we would hope you will pray for us!
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” - Galatians 5:13 |
John Witherspoon College received a challenge gift of $4,000 to help cover the many moving expenses! We have purchased new dry erase boards and classroom tables, but still have the following needs: -

- 100 folding or stackable chairs for classrooms and sanctuary
- Sound system for chapel, graduation, convocation, and other events
-
Furniture for reception/coffee area
- Storage Shelves
- Moving Fees (accreditation, copier, phone, etc)
- Vacuum, Mop, Brooms
Please consider giving a gift today to help JWC move in and setup the new campus! Also, if you (or a church or company that is moving/remodeling) might be willing to donate any of these items, please leave us a phone message at (605) 342-0317 or email us at [email protected]. Thank you so much!!!
