“In this confidence, I intended at first to come to you, so that you might twice receive a blessing.” (2 Corinthians 1:15)
Dear JWC Family and friends,
As Paul opens his latter letter to the Corinthians, he shares that he had intended to go to them, to worship and minister to and with them. But he also relates that his intentions – while sincere and true – were not accomplished. This happened to Paul at various points in his ministry, where he intended to follow a certain pathway but God had other plans for his work.
John Witherspoon College was established to provide vitally needed Christ-centered education to our region and – beyond that – to our world. We have diligently sought to fulfill this vision and have held to our mission throughout our history. However, while we have labored in faith and conviction and received many words of affirmation and recognition of the importance of our work, those affirmations and recognitions have not translated into sufficient financial support to sustain our operations. It is with this in mind that I am sharing this letter with you on behalf of the John Witherspoon College Board of Trustees that the college will cease academic operations at the conclusion of the Spring 2024 academic semester, and begin closing operations for the dissolution of John Witherspoon College.
While I will not weight this announcement down with excessive details, please know that we have been working hard to cultivate major donations and attempt to recruit more students despite lacking any significant or even sufficient recruitment budgets. And while our own operations will be coming to an end, our reputation is intact and our work appreciated. The quality of the education and proficiency of our students is recognized, and our graduates continue to exemplify the rigor and faithfulness of our educational programs.
It is a heart-breaking time for John Witherspoon College, but we take solace in the sovereign will of our Lord. We are sure that just as Paul was redirected at certain times from his own intentions in order to better serve God’s plan, so too will God use this sad occasion for even greater glory to His Kingdom. He has provided great support from other like-minded institutions to ensure that our students can continue their educational journey without interruption or delay, and we are confident that the movement of our students will continue and spread the vision and hope of John Witherspoon College. We mourn, but not as those without Hope.
As I close this letter, though, I want to thank each and every faithful supporter of John Witherspoon College for your financial support, your faithful services, and your fervent supplications. When I write these letters, I address them to the JWC family, for that is what you are. I know you have shared our burdens, I know you do share our sorrows, but I also know you will share in the blessing as God continues his work. May we always remain committed to it, and to be Christ-centered learners and leaders as we live lives focused on his will.
